Despite the crisis, demand for smartphones has grown considerably. However, it went to phone manufacturer Research in Motion (Blackberry) less. Since the first time in years, the Canadian manufacturers lost market share from 20.9% to 19.4% while sales were up.

Apple was the largest increase of 10.9 percent to 16.1 percent. Nokia was still the largest with 39.3 percent and HTC increased from 4.3 percent to 4.8 percent. These are global numbers and an IDC study. Other analysts as Canalys came to a similar outcome.
